The annual spring conference of SEMPRE, the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research, is taking place at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 April 2025.

The theme of the conference, chaired by Professor Jane Ginsborg and Dr Michelle Phillips (RNCM) and Professor Alexandra Lamont (University of Queensland), is Intersections between music psychology and education: Sempre Spring Conference 2025 – Sempre.

Professor Karen Burland (University of Leeds) will give the keynote lecture on Wednesday (“Celebrating the intersections of music psychology and music education for enabling meaningful lives with music”), and Professor Daniel Müllensiefen (University of Hamburg) will give the keynote lecture on Thursday (“Individual differences, musical development, and the value for music education”).

Over the two days of the conference there will be no fewer than 75 oral presentations, including the talks given by the two winners of the Aubrey Hickman Award for early career researchers, and symposia; there will also be poster presentations on Wednesday and the SEMPRE annual general meeting on Thursday. Morning and afternoon refreshments, and lunches, are included in the registration fee.

In addition, there will be a buffet-style conference dinner on Wednesday evening in the RNCM café-bar, followed by music from a jazz trio.
