AMPS is incredibly fortunate to have the rare opportunity to chat exclusively with Spotify’s former long-time data guru, Glenn McDonald. As one of the most imaginative thinkers at the intersection of music, data, and culture, Glenn brings a unique lens to how we understand musical taste.

Glenn McDonald is a music data analyst, algorithm designer and the creator of Every Noise at Once (everynoise.com), an interactive map that charts thousands of music genres from around the world. Formerly Spotify’s long-time “Data Alchemist,” Glenn helped shape how streaming platforms understand musical taste. His recent book, You Have Not Yet Heard Your Favourite Song, explores how streaming changes the way we discover, experience, and relate to music, having analysed the streams of 500 million people. His work blends computational analysis, cultural insight, and aesthetic curiosity – offering a uniquely human perspective on big data in music. Glenn’s projects continue to spark conversations about genre, identity, and how we listen today.
