Tuning into Wellbeing: Refining Measurement in Music and Wellbeing Research

This seminar will explore how wellbeing is defined and measured in music psychology research. We’ll examine some of the key conceptual shifts in wellbeing science, including the distinction between mental health and wellbeing, and the multidimensional nature of wellbeing. Using music psychology examples, dominant measurement practices will be considered, highlighting their strengths and limitations. We’ll conclude by collaboratively exploring how to maintain relevance and rigour of research in our field by ensuring wellbeing measures are well aligned with our research objectives and theoretical frameworks.
