Summary: A PhD in Music Cognition taught me two important things: 1) I don’t want to be an academic; 2) I do want to facilitate and communicate research in a field I’m passionate about. Now, every day I get to be creative, curious and relational as I solve problems, learn new things and connect with people – all the while enabling research into deep and persistent disadvantage over the life course. In this talk I’ll cover my career journey and offer practical steps of how to use your time as a PhD Student or Early Career Researcher to set yourself up for more than an academic career.
